child services.

Children's voices and choices are vital in family litigation and family services because they offer unique insights into their needs, feelings, and experiences. When children have the opportunity to express themselves, it helps ensure that decisions are made with their best interests in mind, fostering a sense of agency and belonging. Listening to children not only empowers them but also allows families and professionals to better understand the emotional and relational dynamics at play. Including children's perspectives can lead to more effective and tailored support, creating a more supportive environment for their overall well-being and development.

All of the work that Talia accomplishes is in a consent-based framework. Force does not improve relationships, or support healthy attachment. Talia welcomes discussion regarding consent frameworks. She is an adult who was once a child that had parents who had immense difficulty co-parenting. She is also a bonus parent and a biological parent. Her lived experience fuels her perspective that children should have their voices heard, and their experiences seen. She also believes that children have the right to healthy parental relationships. This means that Talia strongly believes that parents (not children) are responsible for creating safer faces, places, and spaces for their children to have the opportunity for healthy parental relationships.

Consent is integral to working with children in a therapeutic environment, as it fosters a sense of autonomy and respect for their feelings and boundaries. Ensuring that children feel comfortable and willing to participate in their therapeutic journey enhances their trust in the process and the professional supporting them. Additionally, creating a safe space—both physically and emotionally—is essential for encouraging open communication and expression. When children know that their thoughts and emotions are valued and that they have control over their participation, they are more likely to engage fully in the therapeutic experience, leading to more effective outcomes.

child-inclusive family mediation or child-inclusive facilitated discussions

*shuttle format only

Child-inclusive family mediation or child-inclusive facilitated discussion is a process that involves parents or guardians working collaboratively with a trained mediator to make decisions about family issues, while intentionally incorporating the perspectives and needs of their children. This approach recognizes that children are significant stakeholders in family dynamics and aims to ensure their voices are heard in matters that affect their lives.

Through individual sessions with the mediator, children can express their feelings, concerns, and wishes in a safe environment, while parents receive valuable insights into how their decisions may impact their child's well-being. Ultimately, child-inclusive family mediation seeks to foster healthier family relationships and promote positive outcomes for children.

parenting time supervision

(court ordered or by agreement)

Parenting time supervision refers to the arrangement where one parent is allowed to spend time with their child under the supervision of a third party professional.

Supervised visits can help facilitate a relationship while supporting the child's best interests, and may transition to unsupervised visits as the co-parents’ circumstances improve.

A highly trained family law or family dynamics professional provides essential support for high conflict co-parents during parenting time supervision by ensuring a structured and neutral environment. Their expertise helps to mitigate potential conflicts, which can be particularly challenging in high-stress situations or in complex co-parenting circumstances.

kiddos: clinical child/play or child/youth counselling

*in collaboration with the co-lab company & trusted clinical child/play and child/youth counsellors as well as social workers.

Children receiving counselling benefit from improved emotional regulation, enhanced coping skills, and a greater understanding of their thoughts and feelings. Establishing a rapport with a counsellor before any specific incident or concern arises creates a safe space for children to express themselves openly, fostering trust and reducing anxiety around discussing difficult topics without having to build that comfort level in the midst of a stressful circumstance. This pre-existing relationship allows children to feel more comfortable sharing their experiences when challenges do present themselves, resulting in more effective communication and support during critical moments.

parenting time observation

(decision of the “observed” parent)

Parenting time observation refers to a process where a parent voluntarily agrees to have their interactions with their child monitored by a neutral third party. This initiative is often undertaken to provide assurance and clarity regarding the parent's conduct during visitation, particularly in situations where there may be allegations of inappropriate behaviour or concerns about the child's wellbeing.

These observations are designed to support positive parenting practices and can play a significant role in both informal and formal parenting time arrangements.
